Full grooved ax. Could we get a side profile of it so we can see the bit? That's a nice find. One of the older axes.

That is not only a full grooved axe , it is a raised ridge full groove. If you look at the hafting groove, you will notice a ridge around it that sits higher than the rest of the stone. That ridge is the original thickness of the stone. That means that the poll and blade were ground down to the depth of the groove . That was done to show skill and pride by the maker of this piece. I have found one in my life, most don't do that. I have had some $ offered for mine , but won't sell it!

I can't help but come back and look at your pics. Do you collect, or accidentally find this piece? It has a great raised ridge on it. I don't know you, but I'm so proud of you. It makes me have flash backs of how excited I was finding mine . They seem to be in about the same condition also. Great find!!
