Monster core

I know, cores are usually boring, but these two I thought I should take home. The first one is a chunk of banded pink and white Quartzite, at first I thought maybe a crude chopper but was informed by a few folks that it may be a blade core. Only got one shot outside to focus proper for color, the other shots are inside to show detail. The other piece is a monster chunk of Jasper I found near the Fifty site. The Fifty site is a cluster of sites including the Flint run Jasper Quarry, and the Thunderbird site, a large base camp. The Jasper Quarry was mined from 11,450-8,750 B.P.[William.m.Gardner]. It looks like a piece of quality flint with a couple of spalls knocked off, maybe i'm wrong. Anybody have other ideas feel free to say so, you wont hurt my feelings, I might learn something. Thanks for looking.

Nice looking stones. IDK about cores though I only find small ones that are already used up.

Wow.. Some of that stuff At the quarry sites Sure is big. Thanks for the look. The first one looks like a core to me. It's hard to tell in the photo but that second one looks to have a lot of rind. Maybe that section was knocked off an outcrop to get to a solid mass of higher quality material that looks to be partially visible in that piece. Definitely keepers in my opinion.

Thanks for the reply folks. Gator, there is no rind, or cortex showing on the Jasper. I think what you are seeing are small crystal deposits, or inclusions. Thanks again.

Yes it does. I've heard it outcrops in red and blue also. Thanks.

This might be a silly question but what makes Jasper different than chert with iron content? Or are they one in the same?

Jasper is chert... That's all I got..

Sorry for what? Wikipedia says Jasper is a chalcedony, huh. I'm sure there's a good long scientific explanation to separate jasper from other cherts and chalcedony, but don't ask me.
