The other pieces were indian artifacts: parts of pottery-stone points etc etc

Nice one.. its a glazed clay marble.. probably mid to late 1800's
I have several. (Colonial)
You might do well to try a metal detector out there.

I personally think yours is native. It's hard to call by pic. I added some pics of native pee-dabs and one early 1800's along with Gator's pics. You should have enough pictures there to make your own call. Good luck!

One logical way to tell the difference is the material.
Is the clay the same as the pottery you found there?
Thousands of clay marbles were made for children in the 18 and 1900's some were nice..painted and glazed..some were not.
Most were made with light colored kaolin clay... the same clay used to make pipes of the same period.
And I still see glaze on yours.

The pottery was all a darker color- this one is much lighter in color.

Not a bad idea if you ask me. I know I would be out there with a detector. - Good luck

All three of those are native. This is the only early 1800's piece I have.

How large is the one you have Darryl? Might be made from quartzite if it is a game ball made by Indians.
