About 8 years ago I found the small piece and today the rest! Stoked!

I just spent and hour and a half on search engines 'cause it didn't look like anyone was going to answer Talon's question above. I found "birds" and "plummets" and all kinds of things but not one thing that looked like this artifact. So, it's not as though I didn't TRY to find out what it is on my own but I just didn't have any luck. Things they called "bar amulets" still didn't look like this thing at all! If anybody's got a a quick minute to explain it, I'd LOVE to know (and so, evidently, would "Talon") what this was used for. It's an awesome piece of stone (I have this thing for "green" rocks...).

I've read every post on this thread since it begun and I have to disagree. He was answered and in different ways. What they've said here and on every single article I read on the subject (because I had to do the research as I had not heard of them either) was that no one knows what they were used for. There are theories of course but no experts (or group of) have agreed on one.

I don't mean to stir an argument only I found the thread to be quite informative and I enjoyed the posts about comparative pieces as well. I don't want to ruin this thread highlighting an AMAZING artifact but couldn't help but post as I felt so differently. I only hope the fact it's lived so long and has been posted on by so many is a testament of its awesomeness.

If you'd like me to send you some links of articles and papers I read I'd be more than happy to do so. Just send me a pm...I may not answer right away as vacation starts tomorrow and I like to "unplug".

It's made in an equal but opposite like manner. If that makes sense.

That rock is interesting. It surely resembles a bar amulet in my opinion. The ears on the end have been tumbled almost flat. I see a lengthened rectangular shape, just like a bar. I believe that is an artifact from what I'm seeing. A good ole, aged and weathered version from NC. The realm here beholds many earthy and natural looking forms so it might take a lil more comprehension. There is great finds on this thread and congratulations to the man who started this thread. That one is a real nice'n!

Yes I have looked up to him for years. He is to me, what Reaper is to the others. Nothing against Reaper, at all. Reaper knows his stuff. Jim has an abundance of knowledge on NC and VA. Artifacts. That's my area, well, our area. Take advice on an area from people that hunt that area daily. Any one outside, take their advice, but keep in mind they do not know our artifacts as well as they may think.

That's right bro! I like seeing stuff from other parts of NC and compare it to what I have here. I believe there is many unique artifacts in NC. Some, none perfect, but only beauty is in the eyes of the beholder. Finding something from another area besides my own is a thrill. It has happened like 3 times in my artifact hunting lifetime. Still to find something in your own neck of the woods has meaning b/c it is native for where you live. I enjoy seeing what story those pieces may hold.

Have an art conservator fix it. Don't glue it. A conservator can repair with an adhesive that is reversible.

Not sure about the material. Hoping you experts would tell me more about this.
I was wondering if I should glue it back together or leave it. It has minimal material missing.


Would it be a good idea to have it professionally fixed?
