Some Bone Tools For Your Viewing Pleasure

I haven't found much lately so I thought I'd post some of my Bone Tools and invite everyone to join in and post theirs. Lets see if we can can a great thread on Bone Tools going guys and gals.

A lot of these are personal finds and some are pieces I have acquired through trade or by buying. As you can see I love Bone Tools. lol

I wondered this too...I see lots of bone artifacts posted..are bone tools
A. From a more recent time so they are still around?
B. From a certain region that has an ideal climate so they don't deteriorate?
C Some combination of both A and B?
D. Or it just depends?

Joe, the answer is C. These are all from the Ft Ancient Culture which flourished in southern Ohio from around 950 to 1650 AD so they aren't that old archaeologically speaking. Also, I was told by several knowledgeable people that because of the high content on Mussel Shell on these sites it helps to preserve the Bone and keep it from deteriorating as quickly.

Interesting! Rarely see that here. I need to go up north to that Serpent Mound and harness some of that leftover energy too. Been watching that Ancient Aliens show, so these look like something from another realm to me right now. Lol.

Thats a mighty diverse collection of bone Steve!
Hope you don't mind if I put up a bone piece of mine. This is a sythe made from a scapula. Comes from South Dakota, and looks like it was for a lefty. Also looks like something Larson probably has plenty of. I am amazed at how sharp the bone edge is.

This was a heart breaker for me.
It was a drilled tiger shark tooth.
Here also is a whole tooth about the same size from the same site that never got drilled.

here are a few more of my bone pieces. These fleshing tools come from Larsons neck of the woods. He's probably got a wheel barrel full of them somewhere.


Then this rib bone knife with a highly polished handle. The blade is sheet chalcedony from the badlands of s dakota. I wonder if they have the material in the N. Dak. badlands.

Here's one I forgot to post earlier. It's a Bone Harpoon from Alaska and I am told it's made from the P enis Bone of a Whale.

Excellent tools! We don't find many bone items in our area but I picked these up the other day. Definitely show signs of animal gnawing on the sides but the smooth rounded ends
stood out to me. What to you think? Natural or animal, human modified?

The wear seems pretty consistent on the entire pieces.
Looks natural.
Were they found in any kind of context in relation to known artifacts?
If so I imagine they could be pottery tools.
