I have this section of what appears to be a broken tablet before any design was carved into it.
It was sent to me by SOHIO a while back..along with some real good ginseng root.
This was a personal find of his from southern Ohio.
I am hoping some of you can help shed some light on these interesting artifacts.
The finished ones look like stamps to me.

Where is SOHIO? I haven't seen him post in a long while. Some of his replies were entertaining to me.

Gator I have never found one though we had the adena culture here. I do not know much about them.

That could be part of an Adena Tablet. It is possible, but not highly probable and without any engraving or evidence to prove otherwise it would be hard to say for sure.

I agree.. his area and some of the other artifact material he sent me including a few point bases definitely suggest Adena.

I think there are 13 known, documented tablets, and 4 or 5 probable tablets in collections with histories back several generations. They really are the rarest of the rare when it comes to ancient Native American art. Between the the different caches at Hopewell sites there are at least 20 times more authentic Hopewell effigy platform pipes than Adena Tablets. They make g-10 pop eyed birdstones, 7 inch Clovis points and earspools seem common.

It's kind of like having the torn corner of a postage stamp, and thinking it is an inverted Jenny (upside down airplane stamp worth millions.)

Ha.. well OK.
Just knew it was a squared off and polished stone I was told came from the same dig site as Adena points... with small chips and striations more numerous on the corner all having the same patina.
That's all I really know.
I'm checking into the material a bit further.
