✅ SOLVED Can you spot the fake

I don't know who came up with this idea, I read it on a post by someone that a thread should be started on this, so(CAN YOU SPOT THE FAKE). I hope my pics are good enough. I will post the answer in two days and answer any questions you have on any of the points. Thanks for looking

I dont know points from your area, which is where? Mississippi?
Did you find these or buy them all but the fake of course?
If I had to guess and thats what it will be Id have to say #2
I saw one today I dont think anyone would be able to tell it was a fake unless you put it under a scope.

I'd guess #5 is the fake. I have found points that look like #4 but not that perfect looking. DDinPA.

This was my idea in one of Rock's threads. Thanks for acting on it!! I think this could be great education. Let me look at the pics., and I'll give my guess.

Yes Rock I'm in southwest Ms. I bought no points, some fakes are hard to spot.

Are all but one of these your personal finds?
... how did you come about having the repro?
Do you have any others that you did not find?
Were the authentic ones all from the same area?
These are all question to establish a base of info..like patina common for the area... common styles and flaking patterns..ect.

On a side note... get the repro. Out of the same airspace as your personal finds.. it will give them cooties...and put the rest of your collection in question.

Most of the points came from same area, if I say anymore I will give the answer away. I will say this about a repo.I know a flint knapper .

I wouldn't know how to even spot a fake. My judging is that you're in SW MS & I'm in SE LA, most of my points found are the colors of the 1st 4. So, I taking that # 5 is the fake, due to the color. I haven't found a black one where I hunt, so if I did it was traded & lost. I've found some strange things in the field.

Without having them in your hands and by looking at a photo it is tough but my GUESS is #1.

That is why I mentioned this little game a few days ago. I thought it would be fun to see how well our instinct and observation has developed over our years of hunting. Gator mentioned that repro. Pieces should not be put with authentic pieces. That's ultimately what the poster here is trying to prevent. At least that was why I thought this would be a good idea. It's kinda like a pop quiz. Render a guess, based on what you see. You have nothing to lose. Hats off to the thread poster for bringing this to life!!

This is very difficult without a personal and magnified inspection.. but initially #1 gives me some question..what is it...Eva? Furr?
It looks alot like Texas material and reminds me of a Smith.
It might just be the photo..but the patina looks like it has pooled in the low spots and wiped off of the high spots typical of wipe on stain.
That being said....if I wanted to fool someone with photos I would place the "fake" dead center.
