In this part of Georgia the Indians used these type of stones to grind with. Around here they call the "Grinders". Some other places they could be called Manos but in a oval shape. Pestles are usually a long cylinder shape. Then there is the Hoof Pestle and the Bell pestle.
If anyone would be so kind as to show their types I would really enjoy seeing them. I know mine are going to be hard to see the use wear on them due to the color of the stone. There are dimples on the stone I have posted, thanks rock
That took a long time to load.

Wow you got a few Kat. I have seen only 1 from my area that was completely round like a game ball. The guy brought it to me to look at. He actually found it inside of the mortar bowl. That is a very rare find to find both of them together. He said it was on his property in his back yard which was many acres of woods.

I didn't know there were round ones like game balls, guess they "rolled" instead of crushed...or both...and finding one inside a bowl...wow!

Kat, Your manos look like the ones my wife and I find out in your neck of the woods. Even some of the porous ones that look like grill rock. Is that real smooth looking round one middle left side near the bottom a two sided mano. Very nice collection!!!!

We also have a box of horse, pony and mule shoes we found out there while roaming around.
