One small point and shrapnel

70 degrees today so went for a short walk. One small point,2 broken points. Threw the flint chips in just to show the variation in colors in this area. Same with the pieces of pottery. Some camps you can fill up buckets with flint chips or pottery shrapnel . The thick pieces of pottery (one top edge) come from an area where this is a salt water spring. You can only hunt a short dirt roadway that is close to the spring but it is fill of pottery some over 1" thick. I have always been told the early indians formed this pottery into large shallow dishes that they would put the salt water into and let it evaporate in order to get the salt. Google "The Old Slave House " In southern illinois as later in history runaway slaves that were captured were also used to gather salt from the same place. A little dark southern Illinois history.......... Happy Hunting
