Is this a quartz core?

Ok, got another long shot here. Is this a quartz core by any chance? It was found with a pretty good amount of debitage lying around. The top is very smooth, and flat enough to lay a credit card on, if that means anything. TIA

It very well could be a piece that they knocked a flake or two off. The flat side is natural, but I see impact cracks.Photos of the bottom might help.

yes , I find them just like that where you described, altered by man .A spall core ,reduction core, ? any experts care to define ?

That would be your first mistake ,I tend to trust what the finds tell me .

So you think it looks like something? Had it not been for the debitage lying around, I probably wouldn't have picked it up.

It doesn't look like quartz to me. Could be quartzite but Im not sure what type it is. If its a core I stand corrected but I see no signs of ancient man picking it up and using it.
