Thanks for looking. Question: I'm finding green slate like this:

Is that necessarily a sign that I'm getting close to a nice gorget or banner stone? I hope so!

Nice finds there NC. On your slate point what color is it where you are at? I know sometimes its a different color when posted. Doesn't look slate to me is the reason I ask. Unless your slate is a different color than ours.

Really nice finds! I believe I could identify these as North Carolina finds even if I didn't know where you were from.........My finds look so similar.

The color of slate? Personally, I have found grey/black, green and brown. I'm not swearing this point is slate. I'm interested in why you say it isn't slate. The more I study geology, the more confused I get.

Thanks Painter! Digger, I'm not really holding out. I haven't been out as much this summer. When I do get out, my finds are the same ol same ol. No jasper Clovis from a gopher hole, no tally marked gorgets, nothing like what I see you guys posting. Lol! Rock, that stone does have a purple hue to it. It may be a rhyolite that I'm unfamiliar with. Here is another piece similar.

If you would like a little hands on with rhyolite, PM me an address monster. I'd be glad to send you a few worked pieces and a blank or two if you want to play around with it. I know you enjoy knapping. Rhyolite is similar to obsidian.

Nice one's hunter. The slate point almost has a petrified-wood look to it.I have seen some petrified points that look similar, but I really don't know? It's a neat one whatever the case.
