Better yet is it possible this small back scratcher was native American made? It measures 13" long and it made of tortoise shell. There are some decorative markings scratched on to it. These are what made me think of the possibility of it being native American. It was purchased at an estate sale in Miami. Possibly just a Florida cracker made item of yesteryear. Thoughts? Here's the photos, I brightened them up because the piece is very dark looking in person.

That is very cool. It could well be and made around 100 years ago.

I agree with Tnmountains, it looks to be a nice antique. I don't think it is Native American, but still cool.

Also good to see another Broward County resident on the forum.

Thanks. I've never seen anything like it before myself. Back scratchers yes, but not any fashioned from a turtle shell.

I remember seeing them for sale a long time ago on old US 1 in the south before I-95 was finished it's construction. They sold at gift shops. I remember because I really, really wanted one but don't think my parents bought me one at the time. That makes it 50+ years old.
