Monterey Chert-what is it?

Looking for your opinions. Found on a Mississippian site-looks a bit like a scraper, but a bit crude. Also looks like a bad preform. Thoughts?

To the best of my knowledge this represents Monterey chert. These are from Santa Cruz Ca area. I'm no expert though.

Might just be a large waste flake. Mississippian period tools werent always the best looking from what I have found in the fields. Some nice but most not.
