We got out on Saturday for a hunt and found some interesting nutting stones, I have also heard them called fire starters, anyone got any more info on these...

They both have two holes on the top and one on the bottom. We also found a few good relics and a bunch of brokes.

I would call them nutting stones. Way too big to use as a top piece for bow drill fire making.

WOW! Nice day out thats for sure. I havent found any double dimpled nutting stones yet in my area. The ones I find are single dimpled but on both sides so mine might be something else and mine are also usually made from quartzite. I have some harder stone types but yours are still more detailed and by the stone type and shape I think the nutting stone would be the rite call. You tore up the flint to I see. Looks to be a great day for you or anyone for that matter.

I have heard some think those types were used for billets to as in shaping them. That makes sense also.

I have found some like you have pictured there Bruce, but never any with this type of hole, and with so many on one stone, just thought they might have a different use.

I think it was Grim that told about the billet stones. Looks to be the rite shape and size for a deer antler imo. Wish I could find one.

Yeah I was hoping to get some feedback from Grim as well, he is the most knowledgeable of relics from this area!
