What do I have?

Just acquired land on a creek in Central Texas & excited to see what treasures we find. Found this yesterday in creekbed, first thought was spearhead but I really don't know what I am looking for. Any help would be greatly appreciated, kind, age, worth, etc.!! Thanks in advance.

I would call it a blank. Roughly chipped at a flint outcrop, and carried back to be worked later.

Looks to me like it was meant to be for scraping the skin off an animal.

I'd call it a knife or scraper. Scraper would be used to flesh an animal hide, or peel bark off arrow shafts etc. If you don't know what it is, and it's worked on both sides, the archies call in a biface.

Today's find looks more like a spearhead than the previous one I posted about. This one is longer & slimmer & has a "stem" on it.

Research "Kerville Biface", "Bristol Biface" and "Guadalupe Tools" and see if they were in your area. Far from expert, just looking through a book on Texas stone artifacts. Cool stuff though! Good luck in future.

Looks like a good site , no doubt they are artifacts which is a relief to see after some of the posts recently. They both look very crude but surely would have still been functional knives or scrapers. Good luck keep the pics coming

Unless you are very fortunate, it will probably be a while before you actually do find a spear point, or lanceolate. Them critters are pretty rare!

That's been going thru my head a lot lately too. I would barely consider myself even an amateur at best at identifying Indian artifacts but lately the amount of ordinary rocks being called artifacts has had me cringing a lot more than usual.

Ive been there when I first started hunting and wasnt really finding anything. Now I go out and dont bring much home cause I can tell the difference between a rock and a artifact. Most of the time anyway.
