Congratulations on your beginners luck! It looks like an Adena point (and a large one at that), if so late archaic - to early woodland period 3500-1300 B.C. .

Nice point. I used to live near the Tombigbee River in Burnsville, MS, just east of Corinth. Found quite a few points, myself. Here in New England though, you don't just find things like that laying on the ground like you do down there.

FYI, most large arrowheads were hafted onto handles and used as knives.
Spears are very inefficient projectiles, most small points were used on atlatl darts and a few later ones were used on arrows with bows.

Thanks everyone! Very new to this, but I only live a couple miles from my hunting spot. My wife and I have been going everyday we can and carrying my mother along with us too a lot. It has quickly become a fun and exciting thing to do as a family. Again, thanks for all the info!
