I went out today and found this base. I thought it might be pretty old, but I know it is tough to say when you only are looking at 1/3 of the point. I'd appreciate input from you guys as to a possible ID. DSCN1436.JPG DSCN1437.JPG DSCN1441.JPG DSCN1442.JPG DSCN1443.JPG

Hard for me to say but bet it would of been a fine 1 if it was whole.

Thanks Rock...I agree...most of the stuff I find with similar bases are real small around here.

That is a real ''heartbreaker''. Around here I believe that that would be in the paleo category. I would go back when I had the time and see if I could find the other half.

Could be Clovis. How big is it?

To me, it looks like a point that was broken during manufacture. The cortex makes it a little tough on type but there is ample room on the base for a nipple to make a flute. It's not ground but could be paleo that just wasn't finished because he broke it.

I agree, it's almost impossible to say with any kind of certainty it's Clovis.
I'm just guessing from what I've seen and collected. It also looks like some Cumberland points. It's a cool find but without the rest it's just an educated guess. Post if you happen to find the other half!!!!

You might also consider Copena as they are common in that area.
How you doing Joe?

I had thought about Copena too...haven't found one yet, but hope to soon! I'm staying busy, but trying to sneak in hunts when I can.

Yep your neighbors said they saw you the other day sneaking in one :laughing7:. I said 'Nothing"! We found a place down from you a couple year ago that was nothing but Copena. They can be a large blade. This forum I.D this one as a Copena but they can have a curved base as well. I might have some like that.

Sometimes when the work is done and the kids are napping...I sneak out for a spell. The neighbors can always join me! You too for that matter!
That blade in the pic is sweet.

I tried to get them to go years ago. They care nothing about it. It is all yours and your Dads. I might join you one day though : ) You have done well in your hunts.

That really is a nice base. The rest of it would have been amazing.
I was told years ago, that sometimes when an indian or tribe moved, they would purposely break a cache of points/spearheads etc, so they wouldn't have to carry them, and nobody else could use them against them.
Don't know if that info was true or not.
