Hi I live in Mo. ad spend most of my free time looking for rocks. It started with arrowheads and has just progressed from there. I have soooo many rocks and I'm curious about each one of them. They are fascinating to me. Here are a few that I thought I could get some opinions on.....maybe what they are.....I know what I think they are and lets see if anyone thinks the same. lol

Everything looks to be a natural stone to me with the exception of the one with the markings on it. That piece is very interesting. Can we see more pics of t please?

Agree with Grim, the one with the grinding marks shows work from man, the others are just natural IMO

The one with the hole in it (2nd from the last) is either a fishing net weight or a canoe anchor! I can not tell how big it is, large anchor, small net weight. That one was easy, so I went for it first.

The first item might be a pestle, can't tell the size. Put a quarter next to them next time, so I can tell the approximate size.

The one with the scratches might have been a counting stone, used to record specific numbers, I'm not sure though.

The one with three holes, is the start to three net weights or anchors... I wonder what happened to keep him from finishing the three. Once again can't tell the scale... I'm betting net weight.

Welcome to Tnet. I am metal detector guy, but I absolutely love the people that post the rocks. I believe these posts are some of the best on the forum, and I encourage you to post some more pics, come on, I know you got rocks! You said so earlier.

This time, please tell me what you think they are too. I look forward to your next post.

Sorry, but you are incorrect.

There is nothing up there that has any work done by the hand of man except for the piece with scratches. EVERYTHING else is natural, not boat anchors.

This is why people get confused and continue to bring pieces like this home.

I have to agree with the others that they are natural except the one with markings. Which is not a cutting board, it looks to me like a broken pendant , better photos of the top were it comes to a v shape and back would help. Welcome T-net:hello:

Hello it has been awhile since I have been on this forum and I only had one post. I am not here to cause a stink or to be sarcastic. The following are questions that I have concerning "artifact". This subject has been a daily part of my life since I posted here last June. I am not an expert by any means, but I have to ask all the nay-sayers, what makes you an expert? It appears to me that unless a rock has a point on it, it is just a rock.
However I am here to tell you, with the utmost confidence that you are wrong.
The Native Americans did more than hunt. All they had to work with were bones, sticks, and rocks. Think about it...Man has been on this earth for thousands of years, maybe tens of thousands. Once fire was discovered they had to have a way to cook and eat their food. They had utensils to apply paint, they had children that they made toys for and played games and would need game pieces. They also were very spiritual and made pieces for ceremonies. They made tools to make the arrowheads, spears, and scrappers with. They told stories with rocks. I believe they, like us would have wanted their belongings decorated. What would they have used to depict their life-style....animals, warriors, maybe characters from their folklore; as in The Phoenix and the Sun.
like I said I am not here to start a stink, I would like to open eyes, so more could discover and enjoy these pieces as I have. Have a great day. I hope the attachments post right, I am new to this forum stuff.

What makes me an "expert", as you say, is 52 years of collecting and studying artifacts from not only my area in southern Ohio, but also from the entire continental United States. I have artifacts from every state except Hawaii and I also have pieces from South America, Mexico, and Mongolia.

And I say this with 100% confidence, other that the piece with the scratches on it, everything else is a natural stone. You can choose to listen to me and others who have stated the same thing on here and have just as much or more experience than I do or you can refuse to educate yourself and continue to bring home natural stones while thinking they are artifacts when in reality they are not. We all do it, myself included, but we know they are natural and they go in the rock gardens we all seem to have. Hopefully you choose to listen to us.

Hello,
I'm not sure what the stone with the lines, markings onit is....Its too skinny to be a Shaft Straightener, maybe something to help roll string/rope????

Agree with the others - that thing with the lines is crazy, and is something. The rest are natural, not that they couldn't have been used by natives....but I don't think so.
That said I pick up similar things and wonder....but without evidence of flaking or drilling, they are just curiosities

Huntersmama61- speaking of curiosities....that round rock in the "shell" is very strange...what is it?

You don't need an Indian artifact specialist to inform you that all but one of your pictures are naturally formed rocks, just go to a geological forum or a rockhound, no college degree needed, and they will recognize your other rocks as regularly occurring natural formations throughout the United States. Also I would recommend you that you just read a couple of introductory books on American Archeology and or Geology and then you won't be so dependent on others for such elementary questions. It's up to you, you could actually read a book or two and have the ability to figure things out for yourself and not be dependent on others for such basic questions.
And by the way the artifact with all the lines is awesome, I would be very excited to find that!

All my images loaded sideways, I do not know why. The left side should be the top. Turn your devices on there sides and maybe you will see what I see. lol However, this is what believe it to be. It is a petrified egg. What species, I do not know, Dinosaur? Maybe... but I will take it one step further and say that I believe "man" somewhere in time chipped it to be a depiction of the Phoenix and the Sun. I have several objects similar in shape.
To The Grim Reaper may I ask what your definition of an artifact is? I am always up for a little schooling

You can't make wave with these guys. GRIM YOU'VE BEEN COLLECTING SINCE YOU WERE BORN. You didn't find all yours. There are many artifacts out there that you guys know nothing about. Educate yourselves! There is no room for advancements here. It's their way or the highway. In post 11, first pic. is a prime example of what I've been saying. Because I'm under a gag. Treasure Hunter I have not broken any rule in this post. You should open your minds here. Just disagreeing with the group. If I'm so wrong why do you follow me. I screenshoting this post for the future.
