There is a great collection at a sale. I have never purchased artifacts for sale, but will happily find a new home for these. I am not sure what they are. I did find the catlinite tool in a bucket of shards I purchased. What are the round depressions. Also there is a flat hatchet looking piece with 4 notches on the edges to tie it? I do not have a picture of this hatchet thing. Is the black long thing used for making points? Thanks for looking, wish I found these Thanks for any help!!!!!

Can you show close ups of those pieces you bought? Those two with grooves look suspect to me. The Chisel is nice though from what I can see. What is the piece on the far left?

Are there blade edges on either one of the grooved pieces? The groove on the right piece looks to have been put in there with a grinder and not by the peck and grind method used anciently. The Chisel looks nice but I'm not real keen on the others.

I appreciate your time to look at these. I do rush into a things. I was told a local historian looked these over, you never know with people. I will surly end my buying and go back to roaming for artifacts. No blade edges on either piece.

That rock far left with the four notches. It has the shape and flatness of many notched weights, aka net wrights to many, but they usually only have 2 notches, not 4. But might be a weight.

Thanks Charl, It looks like a weight to my friend also. It does have faint wear marks going across like something being tied for a very long time. I sure love this stuff!!!

The weight and chisel look good to me but Im not seeing the ax heads as being good. One is crooked and the other the grind area should be about the same color as the rest which it isnt. Maybe you can get your money back on those. Also if you paid $75 for the weight it might of been to high.

Thanks for the reply, I need to slow down and look at things better. I get a little feverish sometimes at sales. Everything worked out for the positive:) Thanks for the help! I was thinking about the pipestone piece with all the grooves, maybe they made a pigment from the powder, just a thought.
