hefty uniface scraper

I went on a snake hunt, but found a scraper instead...I found it on a small hillside IN the trees, near the creek..small flakes have washed out of this spot, so I always check it even though I've never found anything worked. I forgot all about snakes when I spotted this hunk exposed. I can't decide if this spot is just because the landowner will dump loads of pond excavated dirt on eroded spots, or if this really was occupied, or a combination of both. It's not extra nice, but I like it's size. The worked rounded edge is really worn down and polished compared to the rest of it, so what ever it was used to "scrape" that was the working surface. I guess ?? . Seems crudely and quickly made, but well used. Middle pic is the insit, just love spotting a hunk that big and that obvious!!!

hah! hadn't thought of that...I just want to take pics of the snakes tho...would really like to find a hognose. I think this would be good location for them.

Every one of those Hog-nosed snakes that I have come across seems to want to go belly up and excrete a foul scent. I guess that is a defense mechanism. Hope you can find one.

It's Florence A chert, also know as Kay County Chert..it's the most common type we find around here, lots of variations to it's coloring, so I really like it. So far the only snake I've managed to find is a very small Dekay Brown...and some squashed Timber rattlers on the road. I guess if they were easy to find it wouldn't be fun looking for them..snakes AND artifacts!

Just think I go looking for artifacts and most days find nothing but snakes. Just my luck cause I dont like finding them. Last time out wasnt to bad just a banded water snake and it was small. Gave it a nuge with my stick and sent it on its way. Nice scraping tool.

You know now that you say that about the timber rattlers I've noticed several just in the last few weeks squashed on the road by my house. Maybe they were all heading to the same meeting
