First Successful Hunt Since April - Video Added

I had to find something because it had been way to long since I had found a complete Point or an artifact of any type. I hit my hillside Ft Ancient site and did a little crawling and clearing leaves. I spent about three hours and found one really nice Serrated Triangle Point, a nice Bone Bead, a Deer Toe Tinkler, a piece of cut and drilled out Deer Antler that was going to be turned into an Antler Arrowpoint, a piece of Bead Stock, some Pottery shards, and some odds and ends. It felt really good to finally find something. I believe that is my longest drought in all of my years hunting.

Here's a few in situ pictures and a picture of some Pottery and Bone I found in about 10 minutes of clearing off some leaves on the hillside. You could literally fill up a bucket with Pottery in less than an hour on this site. It is everywhere. I only keep rim pieces, handle pieces, or decorated pieces.

Yes I have. One really nice one and several pieces. I also have one I purchased at a local auction. The first two pictures are the same piece, the third picture is some broken pieces, and the one with the Beads is the one I purchased.

Jamus, these are made from a Deer Toe Bone. They would cut the ends of of the bottom, then drill a hole into the top. What I have been told and have read on these is that were used as Tinklers and were tied onto clothing and probably for dancing. You wouldn't want these hanging from you as were hunting. lol

I have also heard people claim they are small crude Pipes, but I disagree. If you ever smelled burning bone you would know why you wouldn't smoke through one of these.

For a couple of years now until just recently I thought some of my Fort Ancient points were Hamiltons. Come to find out they are all Fort Ancient but very nice ones

First of all, two enthusiastic thumbs up on the cool finds. it's some awesome stuff. Secondly, how old do u think your finds are? I'm always impressed when I see artifacts made from organic materials like bone or antler. Lastly, HOW do you find anything in all that foliage? You gotta have so easy kind of x-Ray vision to see through all those leaves! Lol

This is a well known Ft Ancient site called the Feurt Site. The age is from around 1000 to 1650 AD. This was a large village setting up on a rise above the flood plain of the Scioto River.

Finding stuff is a challenge. Like I said in the video, you just have to start at the bottom of the slope and rake the leaves out of your way as you crawl up on your hands and knees. It very difficult because it is so steep so I can only do a few hours and I am done. I find something though every time.

As for digging, I have tried digging and sifting down on the slope but there are so many roots from the trees it is almost impossible to get any kind of trench or ditch started. Way to much exhausting work for this old fart. The man that owns the top of the site has been digging it for quite some time now and I hear he has found some pretty nice piece, including a Fish Effigy Pipe. I think there was a story about it in an ASO magazine a while back.

The top left piece is a Buckeye that I found and just kept for the luck. The piece to the right of that is a natural rock that is heart shaped. I keep all of these I find and give them to someone I know who collects them. Neither are artifacts.
