Another member recommended I post here from another thread. My 5-year old son found this stone tool (identified by treasurenet members as a celt) in the farmer's field by our house. We go rock hunting when the fields are just cleared. There is an area in the field - a higher part of the field where there is a belt of higher concentration of rocks - and that's where he found it. My son announced that this one was way more special than all the other rocks and wouldn't let it out of his hands. When I saw it I figured it was a stone tool. I would like more information about what it is and who may have used it, we are in the southern part of Hancock County, Ohio (northwestern Ohio). Farmer has yet to till, so we are excitedly looking for to more treasure hunting soon when he tells us we can go out. Pictures may not show accurately the length is about 3 1/4 inches and the width is just over an 1 1/2 inches at the widest and about 1 inch deep. Front and back: the one face has very polished areas at front and back, the other face has maybe plow marks.

Very nice! Have you continued to search the original area where he found it? I know you said you were waiting for the ground to be turned but I would do some careful digging and searching where he found this. Congrats to your son on his first Celt! It's a great find!

Same as everyone else has said. Amazing find. I didn't find my first till I was a little older. Makes me want to get out my grandma's property and turn her fields over and get some more stuff

We went out today but it is chilly and rainy, not fun for a 5 year old. Also, I know he found it in what we call the "rock belt", but I don't know exactly where because I didn't see him pick it up. Today, we did find several smallish flint rocks, and I always pick up flint. Walking or 4-wheeling, and deer scouting the field is almost a daily occurrence for us now that the crops are off, so we are looking.

That's when I find my best is when I'm out scouting before deer season or when I'm out riding fourwheelers

A very great example of a stone celt. Keep him hunting rocks and you wont have to hunt him.:icon_thumright:

That is a very nice looking Celt. Congrats to your son on his awesome find. It took me quite some time to find my first good one. lol

Just a suggestion, if you are walking the creeks and fields this time of year I hope you guys are wearing orange. Too many crazy hunters out there that shoot at anything that moves. I never leave the house this time of year without my hat and usually a vest too.

I've kind of laid off on detecting a few of my places for this reason here.
