In the Old World, sure. But in the Carolina's, no, you don't have to knock yourself out. Might find pre Clovis, but not 300,000 years ago......

I can't remember who told me or if I read it but when you get down around 10' you would be getting into Paleo, so maybe dig 5' more. Most of the stone stuff I find is 8' or so down and it's Archaic.

I have guesstamated (new word) every inch of top soil for every 100 years in my area. In average wooded area with leaves that drop every year.
