Snow finally melted enough to go point hunting.Had to walk into my spot but managed to find a few.Funky little arrow was first, kinda crude but all there. Next was a little blank or possible cottonwood tri. Another area yielded a neat little serrated arrow, slight tip ding but made me happy. and not long after that found a decent little knife out of a pretty banded obs. Banding doesn't show well in pics but it is whole and nicely made.Sure was great to scratch the itch a bit.

Thanks Arrow86. It is about as clean as it is going to be. It has the typical onion skin patina and yes it is a sharp little guy.Too dark out for good pics now or I'd try to get you a better one. And thank you for comments NCPeaches

No it's just a piece of basalt. Lots of basalt and obsidian at this site.

Ah gotcha.... I see you are in eastern Oregon. I am near Boise..... Mostly obsidian around here as well. I like looking for obsidian as there is no mistaking it.
But so far, I've only found 1 broken point and a bunch of flakes.

I missed your second post...that long skinny one is way cool...I don't think I've seen one like it. Nice !

Nice points with a lot of detail.. I've never found any obsidian not even a flake... Just mostly quartz here in Alabama

We have a good variety of chippable stone around this area but obsidian is abundant and a very good material for making points so they used it a lot

Very nice ones. Try soaking them in tap water for a hour or so also you can rub some mineral oil on them if it isnt grainy to bring the color out.
