Hi,

Found this unusual stone item. Looks polished, and worked on at least one of the sides. Any ideas? The spot is known for an early Native American activity (found a few arrow heads there in the past).

Thanks!

Just a guess.... a tool for scraping fat off of a hide. Indent looks like it would fit a thumb. TTC

Great find! A style known as a plain gouge, meaning simply it isn't groooved, knobbed, etc. Super find...

Killer gouge! I've used modern metal ones with that exact shape, scoops out the most wood with that profile...maybe used to finish dugout canoes.
