These are fantasy pieces. There has never been one found in a Mound, Grave, or any documented dig. These have been faked since the 1800's.

I saw one today in a collection at a show. I didnt dare tell him it was fake. He said he got them from a friend 1 eagle and 1 turtle.

I see them all the time at shows. They are almost always found by their cousins, uncles, sisters ex boyfriend, etc. lol

These T-Birds have been found made of clam shell in the Dakotas. I know the guy who found this one, and I have seen one other. I don't doubt their legitimacy in this form one bit. Here is a couple other neat finds of his. See the turtle head in the bottom pic? Notice the horse actually looks like a horse?

Does anyone have an example of an effigy made from flint/chert?

Yes, I know the gentleman who maintains this page. One of the most knowledgeable collectors in the Northeast. If you scroll down this page, you will see a Burlington chert "eccentric" that is real, and of unknown purpose. It certainly looks like a human effigy, but that could be simply coincidental and it could in fact have been a tool of unknown purpose, here suggested as a multiple spokeshave, but who knows:
