An early fire starter?

I found this in my basement from a past rock hunt brought it up and found it seems to have a "bead" on the bottom of hole. What do you think??

Sorry, but no. That is formed by natural erosion.

There was once a softer material in that hole, and it weathered out. It looks stream worn, so the water probably swirled in the hole making it that shape. The hole is "oblong" that gives it away, if a human had "dug" the hole out, it would be perfectly round. I would have picked that up too.

Its called a Omar rock they form like that in nature. Always good to ask

Ok Thanks. I believe you folks but I'm not sure I see an "oblong" hole. It seems to be as near perfectly round as can be. Thanks to you though

Measure the hole it is oblong.

Your piece if used to hold a spindle would serve as a bearing. As smooth a bearing as possible with friction desired at opposite end of spindle.
Yours might work with more polishing.
Wood is lighter to carry. Borrowing or carrying a hot coal is easier!
