Mano's

Went out today and came back with a few broken points and a couple of mano's. The lighter one is two side and very smooth and the smaller one is three sided although I forgot to take a picture of one side. I did photo both before I recovered them. The 3 sided mano is a nice find as I only have a few of them.

Those are nice the ones I find are quartzite and pretty rough but if they are kind of nice I will bring them home I have quite a few now so I can be picky

As a person who does have a couple of Jon's mano's, I can assure you, he knows what they are.

If you can't see the polish on the pieces shown, i bet you have passed up a lot of mano's in past hunts. So for your benefit, I too sure hope someone learns ya pretty quick.

That may be a metate as opposed to a mano. The mano is the tool held by the person to grind the grain on a metate.

When I hiked the grand canyon way back in 2004, i was a bit surprised when we got to the phantom ranch at the bottom there was a broken metate next to the door. See the photo with the arrow pointing to it.

Of course after that long hike I was pretty whipped and only interested in getting a number of beers in me and sitting fully clothed in the creek which ran behind the ranch.

The after photo of us on the rim after the hike back out does not have as much smiles, just very happy to be out and ready to strap the feed bag on, belly up to the bar and wet our whistle.
