The below obituary was published in St. Louis Post-Dispatch on Jan. 7, 2018
Thompson, Ben Wesley passed away December 17, 2017. His spirit left us to join his beloved Marcia Ruth, his Angel on Earth. At the age of 94, he had lived a long and full life. In 1923, Ben was born the youngest of 7, in Owensville, IN, to Amelia and Charles Thompson. He met his childhood sweetheart, Marcia Gordon, in 1937. In 1946, Ben and Marcia eloped. Ben spent much of his time nurturing his Indian Artifact collection, supported by his numerous jobs. After 30 years, Ben retired from Chrysler. He and Marcia traveled the midwest, going to Indian shows. With his entrepreneurial spirit, he was able to do what we all strive for; provide for his family by doing what he loved. He and Marcia moved to a villa at Friendship Village. After Marcia's passing, he lived in the apartments there. Recently, Ben passed away surrounded by his family. Ben was preceded by Marcia Thompson, and six siblings. He is survived by his children; Joseph (Debbie) Thompson and Rachel (Beth) Thompson, four grandchildren; Nicholas (Michelle), Luke (Paola), Sean (Caroline), and Ashley (Brandon), as well as four great-grandchildren. Services: Visitation Saturday, January 13, 12:00 Noon till Service at 2 p.m. at Bopp Chapel in Kirkwood, MO. Donations can be made in Ben's name to the Hospice at St. Anthony's Hospital.

I knew Ben for many years, and spent many evenings at his home in Kirkwood Missouri with him and his wife Marcia.

He had an amazing collection and was always willing to spend time talking about his collection. We spoke for hour on end about his growing up in Indiana, how he got started collecting and his Indian relic museum he operated for a while.

Ben is a past president and editor-in-chief of Central States Archaeological Societies and past publisher of the Who's Who in Indian Relics.

I will miss him. He was a good man.
