Price question for you.

I have a chance to make a purchase but I nor the owner have a clue as to what these may be worth. I’m hoping for a little help from the forum. These were found in Missouri and glued to the board in 1965. The dalton is 4” long. It has a small chip on the underside which is visible in one of the pictures. I also don’t know what the fluted point is. Any help appreciated.

That is a beautiful piece and hopefully someone can help you with value. It will vary a lot. Its depends on demand and what someone is willing to pay. But then again it makes a nice display

If I had the chance to buy this collection, I would invest $22 in Overstreet Indian Arrowheads Identification and Price Guide. It has opened my eyes as to the significance of condition. "Small chips" and worn tips/ears/barbs and asymmetry all reduce the value. Also, are you a retail buyer or a wholesale buyer? About a 50% difference. Can you remove the artifacts from that board and inspect the underside? Are you confident you can remove any glue (...probably can; either hot water or acetone, depending on the glue used) ; can you remove that ugly (to me...) glossy finish that looks to me sprayed on?

Just some thoughts from a beginner who has acquired a couple collections in last 6 months.

Yep, they use to put varnish on them to make them shine.

I’ve done mine that way too. Sometimes it can hide blemishes by the way the light hits it and the areas surrounding blemishes. Only way to truly know the condition of the points is to get that off there and dry them off and hit them with a light at all edges

Fox - looks like western Mo points. Obviously the 2 key points are the Dalton and the fluted point. The Dalton looks OK to me but it’s hard to tell with the varnish. Assuming the varnish will come off (?) that should be a $100+ point. Not uncommon for Mo but a very nice piece.

The fluted point isn’t a traditional Clovis or Gainey. I don’t think it has the ears for Quad and is out of area. Could be a Redstone but those are exceptionally rare so I can’t really speak to the type. Assuming there’s nothing in hand to make you nervous about authenticity I could see spending $200 on it if I thought the varnish will come off. Other points are field grade points and generally $1-5 each.

I think I would pay more than what has been suggested here.

The Dalton, depending on the flaking, could be a couple hundred dollars if you get the varnish off without damaging it.

The fluted point looks like a heavily resharpened Clovis to me. It was probably significantly longer and a maybe bit wider when made. If you google Missouri Clovis or Illinois Clovis you'll see some varieties of Clovis with a slightly deeper base, with a flute that goes up about 1/3 of the way. When resharpened the flaking intrudes on the flute margins and makes them look fluted to the tip. Assuming it's authentic, that is a pretty easy point to sell.

The Afton at the tip and the deep notch archaic point above the fluted point are also pretty nice points.
