Since I’ve been running my mouth lately, thought I’d share with the community that I’m an honest enthusiast. I’ve held off on exploring this one due to the shear enormity of it, it’s a monster, intimidating to say the least. This one has been hit hard in the past so the approach has to be thought out to avoid the over burden. Today was day one, many more to come for sure. I salute the diggers out there, the method takes it’s toll on the body however, the result is oftentimes rewarding.

Beautiful scraper, Paoli chert (Carter Cave). Rare to see a “chip out” for the thumb. The maker/user was most likely left handed. Notice the edge work to the right of and below the indentation, that area is unusable with a right hand stroke. Ergonomics...lol

Even though it’s rectangular, the proper name for this one is a square knife, a very small example at that. It’s hard to see in this image but all four sides are worked. Black Sonora isn’t common here, neither are square knives, thankfully the previous diggers missed it.

I’ve got a spot like that one with several overhangs I need to get out again and check. Deer seasons over so don’t have to worry about getting shot at

Not a great image of this one. It was gifted to a first time digger. Bifurcated Kirk and completely exhausted. To the left you can see part of a really cool artifact! It was also gifted but I will be able to visit the new owner tomorrow for quality images.

First thing you do in a shelter, walk it, crawl it, study it. It may reward you with an insitu, extremely rare but so worth it when it happens!

The broke to whole ratio...brokes win today but it’s far from over! The flake pattern on the piece in the lower left corner is to die for! The artifacts are telling us that this shelter was used from the Archaic to Woodland time frames, a span of several thousand years. This shelter and it’s artifacts are a snapshot in time, it’s a thrill and an honor to see, touch and feel them. Private property with permission for all the thorns out there.

Nice finds.

I agree that is one large overhang area.

Do you look on the locations in the image here the arrows are pointing to?

I need to get out to those at my uncles. He’s got around 5 bluff shelters and two of which have openings that go in about 40-50 ft with level ground. I like going in those cause most people look inside the bluffs or caves I go outside the drip line and find my best stuff

Was it dug a long time ago and did they push all the dirt over the edge? If anyone can clean it out you can. You are already showing what they missed. Have fun they are a lot of work but some of the funnest hunting I have ever had.

There are quite a few overhangs here....BUT very few to compare to that size...LOVE it!!! Most here are VERY private property if you get off of the creeks...
