Clark,

I hate to inform you but those rocks show no signs of human alteration and are simply naturally formed rocks.

Just kidding. You've got some really nice pieces!! I'll trade you a mediocre book and my zucchini bread recipe for the groundhog. An effigy is on my list of dream finds along with bannerstone, drill, Clovis, pipe, axe... I entirely disagree with people calling it a beaver though. It's obviously a representation of a groundhog. I saw Bill Murray make one from C4 plastic explosive on "Caddyshack". Looked just like yours. Thank you very much for sharing, and please reply with a link to the post about the groundhog. I'd like to read it.

Kindest regards,
Kantuck

It has naturally eroded eyes, whiskers, and individual front paws, ear lobe, and nostril? I can't wrap my mind around how someone could come to such a conclusion.

Imagination, same way we see pictures in the clouds.

Just curious, how long have you been hunting? You are seeing things that aren't really what you believe they are. Yes, I see the outline of animal, or a Derringer Pistol depending on your imagination. What I don't see is any evidence of pecking, grinding, drilling, etc on it anywhere. Therefore those of us with many, many years of collecting experience know this was done by natural erosion and not by the hand of man.

It is a very cool stone I definitely would have picked it up brought home to put with my other oddly shaped eroded stones. Google Hopewell Effigies and look at the detail in actual ancient carvings. If they wanted it to look like a squirrel it would look exactly like a squirrel. They were amazing artisans and we can only imagine what masterpieces of wood they made that have rotted away hundreds or even thousands of years before we ever set foot the shores.

I haven't even been able to view a cloud but from one angle. So that cloud that looks like Pee Wee Herman riding his bicycle with platform shoes that have the little goldfish in the heels would take on a completely different shape if you could take that cloud and view it from all sides. So comparing something like this to a cloud I don't believe makes sense.

So you're telling me that this stone, that I found in a river, might not of had that fine detail at one point in time. Is it not possible for these forces of nature to wash away this evidence you require? Also if you blow up one of the images you can see a little gouge that is the eye and brow then another for a nostril.
