This is probably the best looking thing I have found so far. The crack suits it perfectly I think.

From what i have red and looking at photos the hammer stone's have a well defined "Groove" and polished. I don't see that on your stone. Fred think about going to the book store and buy good book on artifacts lots and lots of good reading and photos. Good luck

Hammerstone and Peckstones will show visible signs if usage. You will see pecked sections and on most you will see flat spots and areas of cortex that where not utilized in the process and most likely for finger holds.

Heres a few examples so you can see what I mean.

A hammerstone with a crack will fail quickly. If fact, it has already failed being a hammerstone because of the crack. Gary

Have you found any points or flakes where you live ?

I have a couple leads on campsites in town, going to start checking those out so I can avoid the heavy concentration of geofacts where I usually look
