Help with identification.

I began hunting a new area this summer and found the largest rock in a corn field about 100 yards from a nice sized creek. The other two, I found upstream in that creek. I am not sure if the largest one and lighter colored one are artifacts or rocks. Any info and opinions are welcome. Thanks.

About forgot to mention I found these in southeastern Illinois.

Rocks would be my guess.

The large piece is Cobden flint from Union Co. IL. No doubt about it. Notice the curve in your piece. It came off a ball. I've visited the quarry many times. Since it has a lot of cortex, it was one of the first pieces knocked off a ball shaped nodule. I can post pics of similar if you'd like. I have no idea on the others. Gary

Are the cobden pieces indicative of artifacts being nearby?

Yes. Indians from the paleo period and also middle woodland Hopewell used it extensively. The Crab Orchard Hopewell area covered So. IL. and likely extended into your area. Also a large Hopewell site near Lawrenceville. Keep looking! Here's a pic of the last Cobden point I found...a Hopewell. Different color that your rock but the same stuff. Gary
