I found a crosshatch patterned piece here in the mountains of western NC just a few days ago. I've got no definitive answers, but one person suggested it was "pre Cherokee", not exactly sure what that means,lol? It looks similar to lots of examples of early cherokee pottery I've seen online, but alot of the examples aren't specifically dated to any period in years ie. 1500's, 1600's etc. Its the first I've found though and intend to look for more. Sorry to revive your dead thread, but your pic looks almost just like what I just found on the opposite side of the state
