Unbelievable Acquisition

Some of you may remember when I helped an older man sort out and frame his collection a few years back and he gave me some buckets full of Points that I gave away to kids, plus lots of Hoes and Hammerstones.

Anyway, he stops in the store the other day and says he is selling his Axe, which is really nice, to a guy he knows and wants me to look at it and give him a fair asking price. I tell him no less than $300 but would ask $350. Yes it was that nice and his personal find.

So so then he reaches in his back seat and I see a little box I recognize and he says, "Here, I want you to have these" I knew what was in there from seeing them a few times at his house. I asked if he was sure and he said yes, but he couldn't just give them to me and if I would give him $75 I could have them. I shook his hand, told him thanks, and we made the deal. I told him they were worth more and he said he didn't care that he wanted me to have them.

So, this is what I received. Eight Plummets in all and one Hematite Adz with really heavy use polish. Two of the Plummets are nice Hematite examples and one nice Sandstone type. All the rest are basically performs or damaged. The large white one is Quartz. These are all personal finds of his from his old family farm in Greenup county Kentucky. I am honored to have these in my collection. The last picture is how I am going to display the best ones.

A lot of grooves here just fall short of full. Backside of last pic.

Soapstone
This one looks drilled it's creek worn this side shows file marks similar to the markings on one of yours.

Nice Soapstone plummet with crosshatch engravings. Possibly a charm stone.

it actually amazes me that the price for so many NA artifacts are so low.

Trust me, if he chose to sell these on EBay or at auction the Teardrop alone would probably go for 3 times more than what I paid. He doesn't have a lot of stuff so I took out a couple of 12x18 wooden trays and helped him sort them out and tray them up. I told him what he had, what ages, types, and cultures they were, materials, and their uses. I spent about 3 hours there the first evening and have been back several times since. We just kind of made a connection. He knew I really admired these when I was there and I explained a lot of their assumed uses and he said he really wanted to have them. I feel very honored that he chose me to be the next "owner" of these.
