IMG_0088.jpg IMG_0090.jpg IMG_0089.jpg This is an item that has been in my wife's family for years. So darn long...I can't trace it. As you can see it is a basket weave with several buttons possibly military. Also horsehair and a tooth it has terrific age , I'd guess last quarter of the 19th century? So I'm putting this out there....what do your subscribers think? We can't place it.

Interesting item! Looks like it was once painted red on the large reeded edge, and looks like the Eagle buttons may have been added to the lid.

Interesting item. I'd find the right area of the proper area of the forum here and post some close up pictures of the front and back of the buttons as best you can. That alone won't give you an absolute date, but if they are specific to one area, indicative of a time, or tourist copies made in the 1930's that will help narrow down your search
