Found on beach in Texas

It was suggested that I post this here. Thought I’d post here to pick your brains.

This was found on Crystal Beach in Texas (Gulf of Mexico). Caught our eye every time the tide would go out. Thought it had an interesting shape to it so kept it.

Could have been a possible piece to one. It’s very light weight and has like terra cotta clay like feel to it. To me it looks feline.

I still have it stuffed in a sock in my closet, lol. It was found on the beach early August of 2017. I rediscovered it in my van and thought I’d share I’m case anyone had any insight into what it could possibly be.

I don't have much of a brain to pick. I live right off the beach here in Fl. The waves can do some strange things to items and change their features. I don't have a clue, not sure if it isn't something natural either. Let's see if anyone figures it out.

Might sound odd, but blow in it and see if it whistles. It kind of sort of looks like an ocarina whistle.

In hand may be completely different, but what I can see looks natural.

it is kinda hard to tell from your pix but i find those every day on my beach. the ones i find are clay and are either fossil impressions of sand shrimp burrows or accumulations around 80,000 year old roots and twigs. is the one you found able to be "scratched" easily? if so, it is probably natural.

Does seem to be clay like. I’m not familiar with hard fire.

I did try to scratch it with a coin and it was hard to do. First time no mark second time I pushed harder and got a little scratch that appeared to be darker than outside coloring.

my elderly mom in Florida gave me a whistle made of clay shaped like a bird. The item was from mexico.

could be the same sort of item.

When my kids were little I’d always get them a bird whistle when we visited San Antonio. Of course those were modern and painted. I never thought to see if this object would whistle until suggested. Pretty cool.

I believe this is what you have found. Festival whistles from Mexico, these are about forty years old.

Thank you. I believe you are right. It does whistle when I blow on it as another person suggested I try.
I know they have modern ones , but I’m betting this is a little older.
I appreciate your feedback and taking the time to help in my research of what this could be.
