i've just been sitting here rolling this around in my hands and shaking head in disbelief for the past couple hours .. all the pictures are going to be side ways. i will bust out the nikon tomorrow when the suns out and do my best.

this came out of an eroding bank today. the same bank has produced some really incredible finds. all essentially from the same 2 feet area over a few years time. i can't really put coherent thoughts to words. i'll try to do better tomorrow. just wanted to share something that is a year maker for me. never thought i would find a hard stone celt. i have brokes of softer stone but this appears to be granite or something similar.....

The celt is made of diabase. Rock of choice for celts and axes. Fine grained and very hard. Nice celt you found. Gary

A very nice "ADZ", beautiful workmanship. Slight damage to under side shows work use polish, the owner would have stopped at this point to reground the bit to prevent further damage. Excellent example.

That I a great find , it looks to be what I call a porphyry stone and I believe the white is a type of crystal . I can't think of the name(I'm home with food poisoning) The poverty point people used it a lot and the stone they used I have traced back to a outcrop in Arkansas.
