Spent a few hours in the creek this morning carefully hunting the stretch I found a pestle on last time out.

I'm hunting the mortar.

But instead I'm finding obsidian.

A few interesting brokes, a worn bi-face, some debitage that looks like an abandoned start to a notched point and what's left of a tiny bird point.

Then I got lucky....

I love that it's worn clean through.

Am I dreaming to believe could be a match to my pestle?

Very satisfying find.

You are not kidding. That is beautiful and being worn all the way through makes it even better in my book. I need to keep dreaming like you! Lol

Congrats on the mortar. Was it buried any? I assume you're in the acorn area so that could be a leaching bowl. They would fill that with acorn flour and then pour water through it to get rid of the tannin which tastes bad and can be harmful. The water could then run out the hole.

Great finds , that’s a good day some heartbreaker points in there but a good sign that your in a hot spot and that mortar is amazing ... your pestle surely would have worked great with it but probably no way to verify 100% that they were a set. Regardless I would have the pestle sitting in it now would be one heck of a cool display

I hadn't considered it's use for leaching acorns. Makes perfect sense, if it was lined with rushes or grass.

That's awesome that you found the other piece!!! Now you just need to find the one that replaced the worn out one!!!
