We are having a couple rain days up here in ND so after farting around in the shop for a while I figured I'd hit a spot where I find stuff from time to time.

Wasn't much to find but I did stumble over this 2 5/8" preform made from red porcellanite. My guess is that it's probably Archaic in age being the Paleo folks almost never utilized the stuff.

I'd be happy with it. Very good find and material. You've probably already checked this out but, this side looks like overshots were taken off. I can't be sure--I can't follow the ripple scars very well. Is this piece representative of most porcelanite?

That is quite cool. How thin is it? Flat in cross section or domed? (Thin and flat could make for interesting paleo preforms.)

The Dunn site in Saskatchewan has porcelanite paleo points. I am pretty sure there are some Goshen points from Montana made of porcelanite as well.

I noticed the flaking as well, Tdog.

Thanks Saguache. It is normally gray when I find it but every once in a while you find a red piece or the tri-colored maroon, gray and black.

I guess I hadn't really noticed the overshots until you pointed it out. Most of the porcellanite you find in this area is gray but occasionally it is red or maroon.

It's pretty flat.....not terribly thin but average I suppose. It wouldn't be impossible for it to be Paleo.

I like it. My first thought was Paleo too, especially looking at the first pic. Around here, Cowhouse Slough would come to mind. Great color.

It could very well be Paleo....I've seen every type of point come from this place.
