Help identifying

I found this today in the Leon River in Hamilton Co, Tx. First time I’ve found anything like this. Maybe a scraper? But have no idea from what era.

It is a scraper.

Very nice one too.

Good size and material.

Some might say its big and chunky so it might be old, but I won't guess it's age as scrapers have been part of the lithic tool box from the beginning and though there are many varieties I'm not sure that the types can be dated (like points sometimes can) as most seem universal across the ages.

People who know Texas artifacts might tell you more.

I do know it's a great find though.

Reason I think it's a scraper is that it looks like it's made on a big spall.

Uniface, flaked on top, smooth on the bottom.

I also think I see some edge work - not that it's clear in this picture - that I doubt would be there if it was a discard.

Scrapers can be far cruder than this example, so it's seemed a reasonable call.

However, I know you have tons more experience than me and I'm hesitant to insist , actually, more likely to take your word for it.

I haven't spent a lot of time in quarries, like you.

I do think it's a nice piece of something - flint maybe? - and I'd be happy to find it.

It's has seen the touch of man--an artifact. I'd call it a scraper if found around my neck of the woods.

If possible, can you add a couple photos from the side showing edge-work and thickness?
Interesting material for sure.
Seems to have been worked extensively for a discarded artifact.
