We all know how to feel about stories, hopefully we take them with a grain of salt. I believe this one though. Previous owner purchased this piece from a woman in the 50’s who had found it in an old travel trunk wrapped in tobacco leaves under old linens ImageUploadedByTreasureNet.com1573931661.255146.jpg ImageUploadedByTreasureNet.com1573931674.107330.jpg ImageUploadedByTreasureNet.com1573931685.614254.jpg at an estate sale in Dixon.

Another wonderful artifact.

Got to say how much I've been enjoying your fantastic collection.

Amazing if it really was an estate sale find.

I might be a bit confused but has this pipe has been shown on this site before?

I had forgotten that I posted this piece in a different thread, sorry.

My last comment didn’t post correctly. He may have known Platter, but I doubt he knew the original collector. If the story is correct it was found In A trunk. Pretty much forgotten about.

Sorry, my comment was awkward as well with regards the original collector.

I'd bet Gordon Hart knew Platter. They attended some of the same auctions. Gordon's collection was stolen in the 1960's I believe, and he was active at almost every show in Indiana & parts of Ohio and knew most collectors where Platter lived. (Plus they lived about 20 miles from each other.)
