A Arrowhead With A Cavity

2 1/4 by 1 1/2 I'm guessing kirk found at a construction site in Tampa Florida. Looks to be made from heat treated chert (its more pink than what the pictures show). This one didn't wash, rinse or repeat. The maker still got some use out of it.

dang you gotta imagine how frustrated the maker was when he got into finishing the point and that thing popped up. I too would have just said f it and made it work. Very interesting point

Could that be fire damage from after the point was used?

I would be willing to bet that ether there was a fossil there are a much softer material that eroded at a much later time. Nice point.!!!!!!

Monsterrack is absolutely right. I believe they are referred to as a solution cavity.

Actually here in Florida that is a common find on points. Lots of shell or softer material the knapper just worked around. I like the knarly blades.
