Finally...

I've lived in south central Louisiana my entire life and have always been an enthusiast of pre-history. Because of the area I lived in, I resigned myself to the fact that I would never find a point of any kind in situ. Anyway, I just moved to Biloxi, Mississippi last week, and have been walking the beach every morning.

Well, this is this mornings finds...I'm so excited I swear I almost cried. I finally found my first point...and it was on a public beach in "downtown" Biloxi, MS...only a mile or so from the casino area. Ha!

I found one point and a few pottery shards. Most are plain, but one was still has some decent incised checkering on it.

Again, I'm so frickin excited...

If anyone has any insight on the material and period I would appreciate it.

Thanks.

Congrats. That point is awesome! For some reason I never really think to look for points at a beach. I guess I will now. Great find.

Does that point feel rough to the touch? Like sandpaper? If so, it may be made of Tallahatta Quartzite.

Doesn't really feel too rough. But it does "shine" so to speak when held up to a light. Embedded throughout with quartz(?) crystals, each smaller than grains of sand.

I'm guessing the form is stemmed...with a broken stem?

The photos show white specks, but it's actually shiny crystals.

Outstanding find! I’ve found 1,000’s of points but it took my 5 years to find my first one. I can completely relate to the feeling. Good to see you broke the ice. All that is left now is to find your 2nd point!!!

Nice going! I’m new at this so take my guess with a pound of salt. But I’m thinking Levy or Pickwick.

Nice 1st find, I know you're pumped for more. Material could be Tallahatta Quartzite, just heavily stained.
