For the novice, what distinguishes that knife from a projectile point?

Exactly, size, the resharpening, the width of the base, Lar Hotham put a book out a while back, it blows away the myth that most of what’s found are spear points, darts or arrowheads., pay closer attention to length width thinness, resharpening, ( question, weather you would use it for this or that ),I think Lar’s books are available,you can get a ton of book knowledge in a short time...Then there’s experience,Lol.

Yes. Consider the width between the notches. It appears to be 3/4" or better--about the diameter of a broom stick or maybe larger. That's way too big for an arrow or dart IMO but obviously made to be hafted.

It has been re sharpened at least once on the left side, very slight, and several more will result in an extreme left hand bevel...pic.1,...other pics. hopefuly show the start of a bevel...it’s hard to capture in a photo, other examples of resharpening will produce a bend or break in blade outline.this should start you on the right track, after looking at a bunch of points it becomes second nature..

It’s interesting how subtle all this stuff is yet how experienced people immediately pick up on it at first glance.
