This South Alabama field find 3 by 1 11/16 Savannah River is no beauty by any means, it has a nice shape but features are lacking. I'm thinking some soils have compounds that tear up some materials over time. Then again could be chemicals from whatever products farmers use as well and/ or a combination of both.

Congrats.
That's still a nice size and she still needs loving after being in isolation for so long. And like a lot of us, she may have lost some of her best features to father time.

Not that bad at all. I've unfortunately seen a lot worse!

Do you ever work with charcoal? I think is word. This piece would be neat in that format or even watercolors

This one was a fighter, had a hard life for a few thousand years. I'm sure she's grateful that some random guy with velcro sandals, a worn out backpack and a rusted out walking stick came along.

Couldn't throw her back just because she's a little worse for wear. Just as deserving of a good home just like the others.

Me too sand, the mud/dirt hid the features well. When it dried after the cleanup it was actually shocking. A look I didn't expect at all.

Would that be a lucky walking stick,?

My luckiest one ever, actually the only one I've ever had. When this one finally falls apart I'll actually lay it to rest at one of my areas. The replacement will be a difficult task, might have to go the route of letting the walking stick choose the walker.

There used to be a guy who was a collector and went around the country and put on artifact shows and than bought up lots of high end pieces and published a book about them. All the pics are hand drawn actual size.
Virgil Russel is his name, Icant think of book title.
I can find my copy and take a few pics if you like.
