Frame #60-61

These are shell gorget’s, worn around the neck..Pic.1...they are from the same site in Pinellas co. Florida...The engraved one has the weeping eye southern death cult motif, I don’t know if the buzzard is represented or not... I have drawn out what I believe the rest of it might look like...The second one, I found the day after a hurricane, recently broken, the shell whorls are bead blanks, hundreds were found, These folks undoubtedly traded em up the Mississippi.pics. are scrambled, but you should be able to understand em.

That’s a remarkable piece. Any idea about period/age for any of these(multi-cultural?)?
I understand that all parts of Welk shells were used for adornment and utilitarian. I haven’t come across any of the whorls (as you put it) here on the MA coastline, but I know they are found from time to time.
Didn’t know they were used as beads.
