Was Cornwallis's gold found?

Was looking up some info on Abbott's creek and saw a photo on Google images that someone found gold there in 1987 but the article when enlarged couldn't be read. Does anyone know about it or if they found it all planning a trip out there to detect soon hoping he may have missed some of it.

Went to the bridge detected in the woods on both sides, just found some beer cans. I was surprised at the lack of trash in the area, me and my friend wonder if it was really the right area we have a theory about another nearby place.

Does anyone know the GPS coordinates of the bridge just wanting to be sure I was in the right place, my friend who was in charge of map reading planned our trip but I'm not sure he got the right place.

That's the one we found just hoping the bridge coordinates we had are right. Here is what we had 64:bridge 35.824755, -80.219874 does anyone know if this is the correct coordinates?

Google Jerry Williams I believe he wrote a book on southern treasures. Maybe about the time or after he wrote this article for the Hearld-Journal. It was an interesting read.

Going out again soon we where at the right bridge but my friend kept staying near the bridge I think I know where it is but if that other guy found it I suspect I may still be able to find a few coins. I need to find an area to cross and am not sure of how the area looked 200 years ago, also can't find any maps from back then.

Haven't got to Go back yet but want to search an area near the bridge but that's probably private property have to see who owns it. I believe jerry williams who wrote the news article in the 80s was the finder he was a treasure hunter not sure if he's Still around but he may have missed something so one day I'll go back and check.
