The pulley was left behind by treasure hunters.
Your Bud Aurum
There was no pulley left behind. According to the descendants of the three original finders (interviewed on earlier season and also given the same story in numerous other accounts) one of the three noticed markings on the tree limb that looked like the markings left by a block and tackle. (https://www.dailymotion.com/video/x3t82ha 24 minutes in to video ) This lead them to investigate what may of been buried there.

Given what they discovered about the age of the earlier structures in Smiths Cove last season as 20-30 years before the money pit was first found it is probable that the pulley marks were left by who ever built those structures (My own view is in agreement with J.Steele and her Naval stores operation on oak Island).

There is no evidence other then legend that a pulley was ever found... the descendants story is the one I find most credible.

How old is/was this Charles Johnson who supposedly had a dream in that story. Keep in mind this story was wrote in 1891, a 100 years or so after the original 3 made their discovery, and the way the story reads it is another mans story/tell ( Capt. Herbert ) of Johnson's dream. It's not straight from Johnson, so who knows how good Capt. Herbert's memory is of the story and who did he hear the dream story from... Also keep in mind just because it is in print doesn't make it a fact..
